Head of Division – Ecology (Maternity Cover)

£55-£60,000 per annum depending on experience

Brindle & Green is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced professional to join its expanding ecology division based on the outskirts of Derby in the village of Radbourne.

This is a full time/temporary position to run from September 2025 to October 2026 inclusive.  This is a role that requires a full-time presence in the office, although one day working from home would be acceptable.

You will lead a team of around 20 ecologists with support from principal and senior ecologists. You will report to our Associate Director for Ecology.

In addition to your role in leading the division you will sit in our senior leadership team and contribute to wider strategic decision making across the business.

Project work at Brindle & Green is plentiful and varied. We haven’t yet taken on any frameworks, opting to represent the renewables, residential, commercial, rural diversification and energy sectors on project work – based on delivering a high-quality service to an increasingly large number of retained clients.

This is an exciting time to join a company growing in stature and commercial value where you can be part of a carefully nurtured culture. The role is underpinned by a list of exceptional perks and benefits alongside a competitive salary.

This role is perfectly suited to someone who currently holds the same position but is seeking a fresh challenge or someone seeking the step up to a new role. As you will be well supported in areas such as people and staff management & finance and technical development, this may suit someone who can use this temporary position as a stepping stone to progress their career.

Head of Division – Ecology – primary responsibilities

  • Direct management and mentoring responsibility for principal ecologists.
  • Ensuring the coordination and delivery of habitat and species surveys with support from the senior ecology team and the operations division.

  • Hold survey or mitigation licences and have experience in producing detailed mitigation licence applications.
  • Experience of production of Habitat Regulation Assessment (HRA) documents is advantageous but not essential.
  • Provide a high level of technical expertise and support across the division.
  • Oversee the processes and procedures of the team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Prepare, review and issue quotations, tenders and bids.
  • Assist our Associate Director for Ecology in the successful development of the division.
  • Contribute to the strategy for staff development and training.
