Over the past six months, Becky, Zoe, and Josh have shown exceptional dedication and enthusiasm in their roles, building a strong foundation in ecology. During their time with us, they’ve had the opportunity to acquire new skills, work on diverse projects, and enhance their understanding of ecological principles and fieldwork. From bat surveys to identification, their hands-on experience has been invaluable.
Becky and Zoe have both excelled in their seasonal roles and will be returning to Brindle & Green once they complete their studies next spring. We are eager to welcome them back and are confident that their academic achievements will further enhance the knowledge and skills they bring to the team. Their commitment to continuing their education while gaining practical experience has shown their passion for ecology and conservation.
Becky, now in her second season with us since joining last year, has been taking on additional responsibilities in report writing, mapping, data analysis, and managing both her role and how she integrates within the team.
She shares her thoughts on being given a permanent role, “I feel mostly excitement but also pride – the season is a very busy and sometimes stressful time and knowing my hard work has been recognised is incredibly rewarding.”
Zoe joined us for her first season and has developed a wide range of professional and practical skills. Her ID abilities have significantly improved, and by shadowing fellow ecologists on surveys and Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), she has discovered a particular interest in bats.
She shared some of her favourite experiences, saying, “The projects in Essex are something I feel proud of. I started the projects by completing GCN EDNA samples, then completing bat surveys. This was also where I saw my first Brown Long Eared emergence which was really special and a proud spot of mine.”
She continued to share her thoughts on accepting her new role, “I am delighted to accept the position and looking forward to starting full time next year. As part of the company of Brindle and Green, I am excited to start my ecological career, and see how the progress I can make over the coming years.”
Josh, who has also developed a broad range of ecological skills over the past six months, will be moving into his new permanent role immediately. His ability to adapt, learn quickly, and contribute to our ongoing projects has been impressive, and we are thrilled to see him continue to grow with Brindle & Green.
Josh shared his thoughts on his experience this season and how his skills have improved, “I think what I’ve most enjoyed is anything where I can get hands on with wildlife, so GCN surveys and reptile translocations where I’ve actually been able to catch and handle animals. Catching 2 grass snakes springs to mind.”
We are proud of the progress Becky, Zoe, and Josh have made during their time with us and are excited about the potential they bring to our ecology team. Their journey is evidence of the value of seasonal roles in building essential skills and laying the groundwork for a successful career in ecology.
At Brindle & Green, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of ecologists and look forward to continuing to support our team’s professional growth and development.
Please join us in congratulating Becky, Zoe, and Josh on this exciting new chapter in their careers!
