Approval for 95 Holiday Lodges at Dalquharran Estate

A look back at the planning application for a Holiday Lodge Development at Dalquharran Castle, located in Dailly, Scotland.

Brindle and Green is pleased to have supported Alex Paton and Son, part of the Cairnhill Group, a local family business, through the Landscape Planning process with the production of a Landscape Visual Impact Assessment with associated visualisations.

Located with Local Landscape Area ‘Water of Girvan’. The Sensitive Landscape Character Area (SLCA) designation is to safeguard important qualities and characteristics of the landscape in certain areas. The Water of Girvan Valley LLA is an attractive settled valley, with an outstanding assemblage of historic houses, castles, designed grounds and policy landscapes. Moorland hills with distinctive profiles provide the backdrop to views across and along the valley. Prominent and accessible monuments provide panoramic elevated views across the area.

Head of Landscape Planning, Henry Collyer-Knight worked with the wider design team to implement appropriate mitigation measures to ensure the proposed development could be appropriately implemented into the landscape, protecting the character and visual amenity of the landscape whilst also achieving the client’s overall goal.

The layout follows a landscape-led, informal, and dispersed pattern that aligns with the site’s natural contours and navigates around both mature and proposed tree cover. The master plan has been developed to prioritise ecological improvements, visual harmony, and visitor experience. Moving away from the uniformity and density often seen in traditional holiday parks, it aims to deliver a low-impact, high-quality development that reflects Dalquharran Estate’s character and surroundings. The design leverages the area’s natural and built assets effectively, supporting the local economy and helping diversify a well-established local family business, maximising economic benefits and opportunities in business, tourism, and supply chains.

This ‘major’ planning application was submitted to South Ayrshire Council in August 2025 and approved in March 2026 with unanimous approval.
