Welcoming Megan Derrick: From Seasonal Ecologist to Graduate Ecologist

We’re delighted to welcome Megan Derrick into a full-time role as Graduate Ecologist after an outstanding season with us.

Megan joined Brindle & Green as a seasonal ecologist over the spring and summer, quickly becoming a valued member of the team through her enthusiasm, adaptability, and clear passion for ecology.

During her time as a seasonal, Megan thrived on the variety that each day brought. From exploring new sites to tackling fresh ecological challenges, she embraced the fast pace and hands-on learning that comes with fieldwork. She describes the experience as an opportunity to develop a “whole host of ecological skills,” and particularly enjoyed being trusted with early responsibility – something that helped her build confidence in her own judgement, especially during ECoW work.

As she steps into her new role, Megan is eager to deepen her understanding of how the data she helped collect feeds into decision making within reports. For her, seeing a project unfold from the initial survey stages right through to completion will be a rewarding new chapter.

With a background in marine biology, Megan’s affinity for aquatic species is unmistakable. She hopes to continue developing expertise in areas such as great crested newts, otters, water voles, and white-clawed crayfish, with an eye toward carving out a niche within the aquatic ecology field.

When asked what she values most about Brindle & Green, Megan didn’t hesitate: the people. She highlights the supportive culture where team members are always available to share knowledge – whether it’s explaining a new survey technique, offering CPD opportunities, or simply providing good company on long drives to site.

We’re thrilled to have Megan continue her journey with us and look forward to seeing her grow, specialise, and make her mark as part of the team. Welcome aboard, Megan!
